The University of Oxford is the oldest English-language colleges located in the city of Oxford,England. The history of this university can be traced at least from the end of the 11th century, although the exact date of foundation remains unclear. According to legend,after the outbreak of violence between students and townspeople in the year 1209, some Oxford academics fled to the northeast, to the city of Cambridge, and founded theUniversity of Cambridge. Both universities have since been competing with each other, and is the most selective colleges in the United Kingdom.


The University of Oxford is located in the city of the same name in England. It is the oldest university in England, being formed towards the end of the eleventh century in 1096. The University's formal title is ‘ The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Oxford’. As a colligate university, oxford consists of 39 colleges and seven private halls. Members of these colleges attend centralised departments to study.

There are around 17000 undergraduate students and nearly 5600 postgraduate scholars at Oxford university oxford. The Chancellor is Lord Patton. The school colours are Oxford blue. It was established in 1117 at the latest, though probably earlier than this.
